Hi, I’m Jocelyn!
Welcome to my portfolio.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER. UX/UI DESIGNER. NNG UX CERTIFICATE HOLDER.
IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY - HUMAN COMPUTER INTERACTION (HCI) GRADUATE STUDENT.

About me

Hi, I'm Jocelyn.

I'm a graphic designer who graduated from Iowa State University in 2021 with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design. While studying for my B.F.A, I created a wide range of projects in many different formats. These include but aren't limited to: UXUI application development, web design and development, brand design, non-profit organization creation and deliverables, re-branding, photography and much more (so check out the rest of my work under my portfolio tabs!) I work primarily in the Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, XD, Photoshop, AfterEffects, and Illustrator. I also am proficient in Microsoft programs, and have worked in InVision, SketchUp (3D rendering and interior design), and Procreate.

I’m always looking to further my education and understanding of design and UX. I am currently pursuing my masters degree in Human Computer Interaction. I plan to study cognitive psychology, neuro-cognitive engineering, computer science, human factors, UXUI & engineering design. I also hold a Nielsen Norman Group certificate in User Experience, with a specialty recognition in Interaction Design.

I have over 4 years of combined professional experience in various roles and fields. Some of the industries I've worked within are cosmetics and beauty, advertising, marketing, cybersecurity, and finance.

I am a driven designer who is self-motivated to produce quality work. I have a passion for creating beautiful experiences, while making accessible and digestible design for all audiences. One of my ultimate goals is to develop work that meets and exceeds guidelines, while also exciting and inviting the audience to experience. My personal mantra is “all passes, art alone endures,” and I believe that good design is a language, not a style.

Iowa State Rec. Services Application

The Iowa State Recreation Services application design was a semester-long UX/UI project, designed for those who use the gyms on campus.

My concept behind choosing this topic to study & build an app around the campus gyms was simply because there currently isn't one. Iowa State has 36,000+ students as of 2019 & there are 2 campus gyms. State gym's capacity is ~250, & Lied gym's capacity is ~300. There is busier times & calmer times than others, & along with that some equipment is more sought after than others. There is no clear indication made by either facility that displays the capacity busyness by time, & busy students don't have the open gaps of time to try to go to either gym & arrive, just to find that what they plan to do isn't available.

Health & wellness resources that are included in a students tuition, such as fitness facilities, should be as accessible as possible. So, I designed them an app to solve this issue and address many more.

Medlink:
A Patient-Provider Connection

Medlink was developed in the spring semester of my senior year, 2021. Our senior capstone is designed to give us the most opportunity to display the skills we've developed in the undergraduate graphic design program.

This project was conceptualized based on my experiences as a patient seeking healthcare in the United States. I frequently found myself frustrated by how difficult it was to find a reliable way to find doctors or professionals who fit my needs. Not only is it challenging to find physicians who fit within the bounds allotted by our countries healthcare practices, but it is jarring that the few resources who provide similar services often have sponsored search results and reviews (which falsely inflates ratings and rankings of search results). This makes the task of finding a professional who fits your needs extremely challenging.

With these considerations, I would design a resource with these findings in mind that would resolve these issues. My solution is MedLink.

A Taste of History

A Taste of History - A Visual & Tasteful Narrative of Our Stories is a personally sourced, made and printed  hardcover book I created throughout 2022. This book was created as a Christmas gift for my mother wherein I researched our family tree, traced our lineage, collected photographs dating back from the 1800's-present, and paired them with handwritten recipes that I typed out - which were from her mother's (my maternal grandmother's) recipe collection, and her own recipe collection, with the goal to explore my heritage and preserve multi-generational memories.
